4. Shop 10

Ok let me start by telling you that all the food vendors operating in this location (behind Jaja hall (unilag)) have their shops numbered. The special interest now is why this shop is called shop 10 while others are called their various names. Wo, don’t let me stress myself over what is not my business jare, Paracetamol is now #300.

PLACE/AMBIANCE

The narrow canteen boasts of functional ACs and standing fans whose duties were to help maintain and circulate the chilling temperature. The interior will make you think you are there for dinner as everywhere looks somewhat dark, even around 10am when I visited, little thanks to the bulbs which did little in the illumination task.

There is also an extension outside the shop for customers who can’t stand the heat inside.

 

MENU/FOOD

Permit me talk about their special delicacy which I took instead of the Jolof rice which according to many is their most potent delicacy.

I was afraid of finishing what I have in my mouth before pushing in another spoon for the fear of losing the pleasing savor I have enclosed in my mouth.

The chicken too was marvelous; it tasted as good as it smells. Don’t tell anyone o, I crushed the bones and had to even swallow some. *Faces palm …it’s not my fault jare, let’s move on.

 

PRICES

Moderate. They also follow the 50s culture. The chicken costs #500 though but I could have bought one more if I wasn’t financially constrained.

 

SERVICE

No difference from others- What I saw gave me an eyesore.

 

RECOMMENDATION

I recommend it for eaters who really would like to have a nice time out alone.

NB: If you go with your friend, don’t be surprised when your friend must have finished eating before you get your food. Yeah, the queue is that serious.

None really. Many thanks to my friends, Damilare and Adeniyi who accompanied me on this mission.

SHORTCOMINGS

• I can write home about anything except the smallness of this eatery- it’s uncomfortable for customers.
• I also observed that shop 10 barely has change to give to customers. They instead have small pieces of papers which will be handed over to any customer who wishes to come back for his/her balance. I suggest you go with as many denominations as you can lay your hands on to avoid stories that touch from a real life angle.
• No POS: this further compounds the woes of payment issues.
